An Endline Assessment of the Adolescent Nutrition Pilot Programme in Indonesia
Aksi Bergizi program was conducted in two districts, the Klaten (Central Java province) and Lombok Barat (West Nusa Tenggara province). Aksi Bergizi became the first comprehensive program aimed explicitly at adolescents that covered eight health issues in Indonesia.
Those health issues included nutrition, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, personal hygiene and sanitation, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), addictive substances, mental health, and violence/injury. Aksi Bergizi was held as a collaboration of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Religious Affairs in Indonesia.
The research, which began in November 2020, aimed to identify the impact of the combined package of nutrition interventions in terms of knowledge, attitudes and behavior of young girls and boys on eating healthy habits and engaging in physical activity.
In the project, the researchers highlighted the two important points below:
- Adolescents socioeconomic background towards the possible change of their knowledge, attitude and behaviour of adolescents girls and boys on healthy eating and physical activity
- Schools environment conditions towards the possible change of adolescents’ knowledge, attitude and behaviour of adolescents girls and boys on healthy eating and physical activity
This research is still on progress and expected to be completed in February 2021. However, given the Covid-19 pandemic that is still ongoing, it does not rule out changes in various aspects and parties involved.
